The Navy Cargo Handling Battalion (NCHB) provides flexible logistics support in the form of transportation (deployable), and worldwide support as needed by the US military.

NCHB units are deployed with United States Navy Seabees to provide equipment, supplies, and transportation to Iraq. However, the mission soon changed and became a major backbone of the US Army's combat logistics support system in Iraq.

The Navy Cargo Handling Battalion provided logistics and transportation support to several operational units, including the Combat Recovery Battle Group, Artillery Battery Battalion, and units located at the headquarters of the Forward Operating Base (FOB). Initially, NCHB units were primarily responsible for providing shore support and transportation support to all operating naval forces (including Marines), but later changed when the mission in Iraq expanded to include these for all forces in the theater of operations.
